The second week of the “Jazz Appreciation Month in Montenegro – JAM 2025” festival kicks off with the opening of the LP cover exhibition “Jazz Album Covers” on Tuesday, April 8th, at 7 PM, in the lobby of the Cultural Information Center “Budo Tomović”.

The exhibition will feature around fifty albums released by renowned record labels from different eras, showcasing interesting and authentic designs and a variety of artistic concepts. The exhibition was created in collaboration with jazz musicians, music and jazz enthusiasts, friends of the JAM festival, and the Jazz Art and Montenegro Records. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed and participated!

With special reverence, we also announce the Jazz on Film series, dedicated to the recently deceased legendary composer and producer – Quincy Jones.

This program focuses on two outstanding films – The Pawnbroker (1964) and In the Heat of the Night (1967), both of which marked their eras in unique ways.

The first, directed by Norman Jewison, presents an intense detective story set in the American South, featuring the unforgettable duo of Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. The film won five Oscars, including Best Picture. The second, directed by Sidney Lumet, tells a poignant story about the Holocaust and alienation, with Rod Steiger portraying a traumatized pawnbroker.

Quincy Jones’s music in these two films portrays entirely different worlds. The Pawnbroker, his first film soundtrack, is infused with sophisticated Caribbean poly-rhythms and bossa nova influences, reflecting the protagonist’s inner turmoil and detachment. In contrast, In the Heat of the Night employs blues and soul motifs, capturing the sultry, tense atmosphere of the American South and the racial tension simmering beneath the surface.

We are especially proud to screen The Pawnbroker, a rarely seen masterpiece whose music remains one of the most authentic jazz film scores to this day.

The Jazz on Film series is organized in cooperation with the American Corner in Podgorica. The films will be screened without translation, with English subtitles, on April 8th and 9th in the Multimedia Hall of the Cultural Information Center “Budo Tomović” in Podgorica, starting at 8 PM.

Admission is free of charge!
